Elders Engage with Youth Through Model TrainsMay 2012 - Tyler Ponsford, staff member Carolina's, 10-year-old son loves trains. A pastime that his grandfather got him into before he passed away. Recently, Tyler and his classmate Carter, both grade five students at Aspengrove School, came to share their love of trains with the Elders.
The two boys set-up their electric trains at the Lodge for the Elders to interact with. The trains brought back many memories from the past for the Elders, who fondly remember trains as a major form of long distance transportation.
The Elders were asking lots of questions, playing and moving the trains on the tracks, really looking at the trains and the books. Although many years separate them, the boys and the Elders felt engaged and alive through a common interest.
