Men's Woodworking Group
Nanaimo Travellers Lodge (NTL) recently offered a men's woodworking group organized by volunteers, including Harold Tinling, Cyd Coburn and others. The first project for this group of six Elders who live at the Lodge was building cedar birdhouses. Harold created a design for the birdhouse and cut all the pieces beforehand to make assembly fun and safe for the Elders.
Once the birdhouses were assembled, they were painted with bright colours. The beautiful birdhouses will be hung in the Lodge's garden, given as gifts to family members, and sold to raise funds.
The Elders enjoyed the opportunity to work on a project from start to finish. The programs at Nanaimo Travellers Lodge are all about giving Elders the opportunity to engage in interesting activities that allow them to make choices and have some fun. The feedback for this creative program has been very positive.
NTL is always looking for new ways to engage the Elders in activities that interest them. Volunteers are welcome to share their talents and no experience is necessary, just a willingness to share your knowledge and experience.
The next project for the woodworking group is wooden planters for the garden.
